Alex was the main anchor for the most popular nightly BBC News regional programme, Points West from 2005 to 2023, which has made her one of the most recognised personalities in the West. She has brought life and character to a much loved show, equally at home with hard hitting breaking news as with glossy fun-filled features. As well as the daily shows, Alex has presented many BBC Points West special half hour programmes, including a poignant and moving live outside broadcast tribute to the last World War 1 hero Harry Patch and a vibrant and pacey Glastonbury Festival 40th anniversary show in 2010, live from the festival site. She has fronted BBC West’s Children in Need appeal shows, in 2009 with the actor Tony Head.
Alex became the co-presenter of ITV News West Country from January 2024. Alex has an immense talent for live presenting. For 5 years she hosted the daily Five live game show Brainteaser, launched the auction channel bidtv with Paul Ross and shone with Dave Benson Phillips on Playhouse Disney, a successful format that went around the world.
Alex is also a highly sought after voice-over. She has credits on Channel 4’s Deal or No Deal and Fool Around With…, Discovery’s Wedding Planners, Five’s In The Grid and many others.
Alex grew up in Yorkshire but trained as an actor in London. She has appeared in many theatre productions including Blood Brothers, Repertory, the BBC hit children’s show Playdays, pantomime with the likes of Bobby Davro and Julian Clary. Television credits include Love Soup, My Dad’s the Prime Minister and The Bill.
Alex excels at live or recorded television equally. She has a reputation for professionalism, hard work and fun, with an eye for detail and a drive to get the best out of everything she does. With her charm, great sense of humour and down-to-earth friendliness, Alex is a very popular presenter who appeals to a very wide audience.
Alex lives in Wiltshire with her husband, Gavin and 3 cats! She loves fashion and redecorating and is studying British Sign Language. Although she may be too modest to admit it, she’s a karaoke star.
